Job Description
Position Summary
ICEF Public Schools seeks a strategic and systems-oriented Director of School and Business Operations to lead the network’s operational excellence at both school-site and central office levels. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director will oversee a team of School Operations Managers (SOMs) across campuses and lead key business operations functions including accounts payable/receivable, procurement, vendor contracts, insurance, and audit project management.
This role is responsible for strengthening operational systems, driving compliance, and ensuring high-quality school operations that support academic and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
School Operations Leadership
- Manage and coach School Operations Managers (SOMs) to ensure operational excellence at each school site
- Oversee school-based operations in areas including facilities, maintenance, safety, compliance, front office, and non-instructional services
- Build and implement systems and processes that create consistency, efficiency, and accountability across campuses
- Coordinate training and professional development for SOMs and site-based operations teams
- Act as primary liaison between schools and central office for operational problem-solving
Network Business Operations Management
- Oversee network-wide accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing
- Manage network-level procurement systems and processes, including vendor relationships and purchasing approvals
- Act as lead with insurance carriers for claims management and annual renewals
- Serve as project manager for ICEF’s annual financial audit process, coordinating with external auditors and internal stakeholders
- Lead contract administration and compliance tracking for network vendors
- Ensure operational compliance with federal, state, local, and charter-specific requirements
Compliance Leadership
- Develop and oversee systems to ensure consistent compliance with all relevant operational, legal, safety, and reporting requirements
- Monitor school site compliance in facilities, safety, maintenance, and non-instructional operations
- Collaborate with School Operations Managers to implement corrective action plans following compliance audits or reviews
- Serve as point of contact for compliance-related inquiries, audits, and reporting across operations functions
- Coordinate training and professional development related to operational compliance for SOMs and school site staff
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with academic, finance, HR, and facilities teams to align operations with instructional priorities and organizational goals
- Support principals and instructional leaders by removing operational barriers and providing responsive, solutions-focused support
- Represent operations in cross-departmental planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least 7 years of progressive school operations experience, including site-level functions
- Minimum 4 years of experience managing a team, with a proven track record of coaching and developing staff
- Strong understanding of operational compliance requirements in K-12 education or similar settings
- Experience managing financial processes, vendor contracts, insurance, and audits
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading operations in a charter management organization or public education setting
- Familiarity with California Education Code and public charter compliance frameworks
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
