RESOURCE SPECIALIST TEACHER

Reports to: School Principal

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach the knowledge and skills, nurture the confidence and character, and inspire the passion needed for our students to achieve their goals, live their best lives, and positively impact the world.
  • Teaches and instructs pupils with special learning needs in subject matter areas, auditory and visual perceptual training and fine and gross motor skill development.
  • Utilizes an adopted course of study, curriculum and instruction guidelines and other materials to develop lesson plans and teaching outlines designed to remediate student eligibilities.
  • Utilizes a variety of specialized methodology to provide instruction and to assist other instructional personnel, including remedial instruction, demonstrations and activity participation using a variety of educational equipment, materials, books and learning aids.
  • Reviews, analyzes and evaluates the history and background of pupils with learning disabilities, and assists instructional personnel in the assessment of pupils with learning disabilities.
  • Designs educational programs to meet individual learning needs and assists in implementing the various educational processes.
  • Individualizes instructional processes and adapts instructional delivery systems as needed.
  • Manage compliance of accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs in the general education classroom and during Special Education service time.
  • Provides individual and group instruction in remediating student learning disabilities, and effectively utilizes available instructional time.
  • Employs a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques, including behavior modification, reinforcement and other positive behavior shaping processes.
  • Assists in the coordination of the individual education program planning team.
  • Reviews, analyzes and evaluates student academic, behavioral and social growth.
  • Records and reports perceptions of student progress, and recommends changes to students’ individual educational programs.
  • Prepares, administers, scores and records the results of criterion-referenced and group standardized tests to evaluate student growth and progress.
  • Counsels, confers and communicates with parents and instructional personnel concerning student progress and the interpretation of students’ individual educational programs.
  • Assists students in a mainstream classroom instructional program.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional skills and methods, varies instructional modes to accommodate student needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree – required, Master’s - preferred
  • Possession of a valid (internship, preliminary, or clear) Commission on Teacher Credentialing certificate, permit, or other document required for the teacher’s certificated assignment
  • Possession of either a Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language or Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; a Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; a Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC); or a Language Development Specialist (LDS) certificate is desirable; EL Authorization
  • Desire to teach in an urban school environment
  • Confident in managing student behavior
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change easily
  • Demonstrated success working with students from educationally underserved areas
  • Possession of either a Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language or Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; a Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; a Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC); or a Language Development Specialist (LDS) certificate is desirable

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

Required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet the changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: effectively leading meetings, comfortably giving academic presentations, exhibiting appropriate manners including poise, tact, good judgment, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with ICEF personnel, community representatives, parents, and students.

An ideal candidate for this position is someone who is highly organized and self-motivated. Candidate must have the ability to schedule a significant number of activities, trainings, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when making decisions. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined as well as undefined and self-created processes; and operate job-required equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diverse set of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Frequent local travel and occasional out-of-town may be required for trainings, seminars, or workshops. This position will work in a shared office space and will be required to visit the school sites on a frequent basis. When out on school sites, the following physical demands may be requested: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Bachelor’s Degree in any field
