Elementary School School Nurse

Position Description:
The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse provides specialized health services to students with specialized physical health care needs under the guidelines provided by the student’s doctor; provides specialized support services in a variety of settings, including various Pre-K to grade 5 educational settings.
With minimal supervision, this classification provides non-routine and routine specialized basic health care procedures necessary to ensure student safety on a daily basis, which requires specialized training and/or licensure. The employee in this classification works closely with the principal and teacher and follows detailed instruction and/or establishes practices and procedures. Uses judgment and initiative in performing jobs and works with students with medical disabilities.
Reporting:
This position reports to the School Principal.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Cycle: 12 months
Salary: Commensurate with Experience ($28-30/hour)

This position includes but is not limited to the following duties:
• Care for 2 students. The level of care needed for each student will vary so please ensure you are comfortable working with children who have one or more of the following: diabetes, and/or, seizures
• Maintain a healthy and safe environment for students and staff; provide information to staff, students and parents regarding safety issues and other health-related matters.
• Provides initial practical care for students in need of First Aid.
• Administers medication to students as prescribed and maintains organization of the medication drawer.
• Logs, tracks, and generates daily reports of all visits to the wellness center with reason for the visit.
• Maintains the inventory of First Aid supplies including classroom care kits and ice bags.
• Willingness to travel on student field trips as support depending on student health needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school graduation or the equivalent (required)
- A valid California Vocational Nurse's license (required)
- One year of nursing experience working with children in a school setting (preferred)
- CPR/First Aid certified.
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred, knowledge of and/or experience working in the communities we serve required
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to represent ICEF to the diverse communities we serve
- Able to quickly gain trust and build effective relationships
- Dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to ICEF’s mission and the communities we serve
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does have direct supervisory responsibilities.
