Hourly Rate: Starting at $20.00 per hour

Job Description

Position Summary

The principal tasks of the Instructional Aide is to help with clerical work and classroom activities, provide individual attention to students in need of extra assistance, lead small group instruction, and monitor students during independent work time and/or designated breaks such as recess, nutrition, and/or school events .

This position is assigned to specific school location(s) and may need to travel to home office or designated learning spaces for professional development and/or organization wide meetings.

Essential Functions

Student Academic Support

  • Provide one-on-one support to students with diverse learning needs, reinforcing lesson concepts and helping them overcome specific academic hurdles.
  • Facilitate teacher-led lesson plans for small groups to improve literacy, numeracy, and subject-specific comprehension.
  • Observe student performance during independent work and provide real-time feedback or scaffolding to ensure mastery of the material.
  • Modify or simplify complex instructions for students who require additional clarity, ensuring all learners can access the curriculum.
  • Administer assessments as directed by the teacher and/or school leadership.

Learning Environment

  • Manage essential administrative tasks such as grading objective assignments, organizing student files, and preparing instructional materials (e.g., photocopies, kits, or digital resources).
  • Coordinate the setup and breakdown of daily activities, ensuring all necessary tools and supplies are available and organized for student use.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining an engaging classroom environment, including the development of educational bulletin boards and the organization of learning centers.
  • Track classroom inventory and alert the lead teacher when supplies need replenishing to ensure uninterrupted instruction.
  • Use an answer key to grade tests and student assignments, recording, grading, drafting correspondence to parents, and handling routine filing of student’s work.

Student Supervision

  • Reinforce classroom rules and directions to promote positive student behavior.
  • Supervise students during transition periods, independent study, in hallways and playground, before and after school, and designated breaks such as recess, nutrition, and/or lunch to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
  • Provide a responsible adult presence during school-wide events, assemblies, and field trips, maintaining accountability for student locations and safety.
  • Reinforce school-wide behavioral standards and conflict resolution strategies, intervening gently but firmly when student interactions require mediation.
  • Maintain high visibility during outdoor activities and school events to prevent accidents and respond promptly to any student needs or emergencies.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned High School Diploma or the equivalent, and,
    • Two years of college (minimum 48 units of core college credit), or,
    • Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or, 
    • Passage of the California Basics Education Skills Test (CBEST)
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, and verbal communication
  • Strong leadership, team management, and project execution skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally 
  • Proficient use of Google-based applications
  • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance
  • Background check clearance
  • Commitment to educational equity and ICEF’s mission

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of professional experience in a public charter school, charter management organization or public school district
  • Proficiency in using school-based information systems and applications
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
