Salary Range: Starting at $68,000, commensurate with experience

Position Overview
The opportunity to serve as a special education teacher with the ICEF family is one of a kind. You will learn and grow alongside committed and passionate special education professionals that believe that equal access is the key to building the most effective and comprehensive programs for students with disabilities. We are committed to providing educators with the tools necessary to provide the best quality services to our students with disabilities. It is for this reason that we have developed a collaborative approach between teachers, school psychologists, paraprofessionals, school administrators, and all other service providers that are part of the service delivery model for our schools.

Essential Functions

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Design, develop, and deliver differentiated instruction aligned to ICEF Instructional Guides, California Common Core Standards, and individual student learning needs; utilize a variety of specialized methodologies including remedial instruction, demonstrations, and activity-based learning
  • Create and implement lesson plans, teaching outlines, and educational programs that remediate student eligibilities and accommodate all levels of ability, including students identified with special needs
  • Individualize instructional processes and adapt delivery systems as needed; utilize auditory and visual perceptual training and fine and gross motor skill development techniques
  • Implement ICEF's Essential Elements and Core Values: College-Going Culture, College Style Discourse, College Level Analytical Writing, College Style Study Habits, Backward Mapping to College Standards, and Blended Learning through technology

IEP & Special Education Compliance

  • Manage and monitor compliance of accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs in both the general education classroom and during Special Education service time
  • Assist in coordinating the Individual Education Program (IEP) planning team; counsel, confer, and communicate with parents and instructional personnel regarding student progress and IEP interpretation
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate student academic, behavioral, and social growth; record and report perceptions of student progress and recommend changes to IEPs as appropriate
  • Prepare, administer, score, and record results of criterion-referenced and standardized assessments to evaluate student growth; use Illuminate to maintain accurate, up-to-date records of attendance, coursework, and assessment results

Learning Environment & Behavior

  • Create and maintain a nurturing, structured, and engaging classroom environment with a coherent plan for classroom discipline; maintain clear documentation of all behavioral interventions prior to referring a student out of class
  • Employ a variety of behavior management strategies including behavior modification, reinforcement, and positive behavior shaping processes

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Special Education Team, ELL Support Staff, and general education teachers to ensure students with additional needs can access the curriculum and succeed in a mainstream classroom setting
  • Use ICEF Common Assessments and Unit Assessment results to determine differentiated instruction needed for low and high performing students
  • Attend and participate in monthly Parent Engagement Meetings, Back-to-School Nights, Parent Conferences, and office hours/tutoring as communicated by administration; maintain consistent and meaningful communication with parents

Professional Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all professional development sessions and collaborate with colleagues in alignment with the ICEF Teacher Effectiveness Framework
  • Provide clear information to students and parents regarding class objectives, assignments, homework requirements, grading rubrics, and grading scale
  • Work required school hours (half an hour before the school day begins to 4:00 p.m.), dress professionally, and adhere to ICEF's professional code of conduct

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree – required, Master’s - preferred
  • Possession of a valid (internship, preliminary, or clear) Commission on Teacher Credentialing certificate, permit, or other document required for the teacher’s certificated assignment
    • Preliminary or Clear Mild to Moderate Education Specialist Credential or Teacher Intern Credential
  • Possession of either a Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language or Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; a Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; a Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC); or a Language Development Specialist (LDS) certificate is desirable; EL Authorization
  • Desire to teach in an urban school environment
  • Confident in managing student behavior
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change easily
  • Demonstrated success working with students from educationally underserved areas
